Good Samaritan Launches Reconciliation Fund

Fund Development

October 13

Starting October 12, 2022, the Good Samaritan Society and Good Samaritan Canada will accept donations to a new Reconciliation Fund to support our ongoing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, particularly for Indigenous peoples.

Good Samaritan President and CEO, Dr. Katherine Chubbs, received the 2022 Muhammad Ali Abid Memorial Service Award from the Southern Alberta Chapter (SAC) of the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL).

The award was established in 2021 by CCHL in memory of Muhammad Ali Abid who gave of his time and tireless energy in the spirit of volunteerism to numerous charities and other deserving organizations, causes, and individuals in Alberta and Canada. Dr. Chubbs received the award in recognition of her leadership, passion, and dedication to addressing racism and for her many community service endeavors.

The award included a $1,500 donation to a charity of the recipient’s choosing. Dr. Chubbs chose to use the donation to start the Good Samaritan Reconciliation Fund. This fund will help create culturally safe spaces in Good Samaritan care homes and programs across the organization.

As the largest not-for-profit seniors care provider in Alberta and British Columbia, Good Samaritan provides safe, comfortable communities and inspires involvement where people can experience a sense of caring, belonging and purpose. We serve more than 6,000 residents, clients and individuals in 57 homes.

Good Samaritan is committed to living its Mission, Vision, and Values in serving marginalized individuals and people in need and through Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

This Christmas give the gift of comfort and joy

Fund Development

December 3

The impact donors have on our residents and clients is immeasurable.
Donors have the power to transform comfortable accommodations
into remarkable homes, and each dollar gifted directly affects our
ability to provide enriching programming and care. We use donations
to create lovely spaces, add innovative technologies, and engage with
those we care for in new and exciting ways.

Please find it in your heart this Christmas season to Make Life More
Joyful for residents like Len:

“I love my weekly bus outings, it makes me feel I am still part of the
world, and I love seeing the changing seasons and what’s happening
around my town.” – Len, Good Samaritan Resident.

As a faith-based organization, our mission is to extend Christian
hospitality through a continuum of care to those who are in need or at
risk regardless of race or religious belief. We try to provide experiences
that resonate with each person, respecting their culture and traditions.

Our Music Therapy programs have the power to Make Life More
Soulful for our more than 3600 resident and clients throughout
Western Canada.

“I love seeing the residents come alive and truly engage when they are
at the music therapy program. It is the highlight of their week, and
mine too!” – Sue, Good Samaritan Volunteer.

Make your gift today to celebrate our 70th Anniversary and to help us
provide exceptional care for 70 years to come.

Sincerely,

Patti Weise

The Good Samaritan Society’s Program for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PPDD) is getting a new ramp for residents thanks to the generosity of the Royal Alexandra Hospital Employees Charitable Donations Fund

Fund Development

April 5

The Good Samaritan Society was thrilled to receive funds through the Royal Alexandra Hospital Employees Charitable Donations Fund in March.

The Good Samaritan Society Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PPDD) program will benefit from receiving these funds by purchasing a ramp for one of our shared living homes to enhance quality of care and accommodations for the clients we are privileged to serve. This ramp will enable our aging clients to remain within their home for many years to come!

Pictured receiving the donation is Krista Dutot (left), Program Manager for PPDD at The Good Samaritan Society, and Shannon Goralski (right), our Fund Development Coordinator.
