“And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.”

Hebrews 13:16, NLT

One of my joys (pun intended) of Pastoral ministry was gathering support from my local church to lift a community member in need. This support can takes many forms; at times, it’s stuffing stockings at Christmas for teenagers at a local treatment centre, or it can mean buying grocery cards for families struggling to put food on the table. It can even involve pulling together a team of volunteers to help maintain a single mom’s aging home. These acts of service are inspiring, impactful, and contagious. Every act of care and generosity helps cultivate a stronger community rooted in the core values embodied by every Good Samaritan: Healthy Relationships, Servant Leadership and Hospitable Environments.

Each day, our Good Samaritan Chaplains bring this intention and impact in the care they provide to our residents, clients, and individuals across Alberta and British Columbia. The spiritual care they lead is integral to the Good Samaritan mission: “to extend Christian Hospitality through a continuum of care to those in need or at risk, regardless of race or religious belief.”

Our duty as Good Samaritans is, in part, about welcoming the stranger, the person in need, and empowering them to lead a spiritually full life. Good Samaritan Chaplains continue to find meaningful ways to foster this with our residents, staff, and community at large.

Our Chaplains provide meaningful support in ways that resonate with each individual. Cultivating spirituality gives meaning and purpose to life, helping build positive relationships with self, others, nature, music, or a higher power.

Our Chaplains’ work has been instrumental since Good Samaritan began, and will continue to be into the future. To ensure this aspect of care continues, we rely on donations to fund our Chaplaincy program. Our hope is that you would partner in doing good and taking care with us, valuing the spiritual care provided to our amazing residents.

This year, our goal is to raise $15,000 so we can continue to offer pastoral-spiritual care services through our Chaplaincy program. We invite you to partner with us to do good and share with those in need. Your generous contribution will make a direct impact to the quality of care provided to those who make a home at Good Samaritan. Because the world could use more Good Samaritans.

Together,

Matt Joy
