2024 Survey: The Results are In!

We are pleased to announce that Accreditation Canada has awarded Good Samaritan with Exemplary Status in the recent survey.

Exemplary Status demonstrates our commitment to providing safe, high-quality health services. It means that Good Samaritan has exceeded the accreditation program’s fundamental requirements.

Exemplary Status is an outstanding achievement, but it should not be the only goal; progress is the goal. For the next steps, we will review Accreditation Canada’s full report and plan to incorporate some of what we learned into our operational plans. The entire organization—the board, leaders, and frontline employees—all played essential roles in achieving this remarkable success.

Some important comments from Accreditation Canada:

  • Our Being and Belonging model of care is a key part of decision-making at all levels.
  • The residents feel a sense of love and belonging, and the staff embraces the Mission and live the Values daily.
  • Our Mission is a focal point for the organization, from the Board down to individual employees.
  • Equity, diversity, and inclusion are significant strengths.

What is Accreditation?

Accreditation is the ongoing process of assessing and improving our organization’s health and social services against national standards of excellence related to governance, infection prevention and control, leadership, long-term care, medication management, residential homes for seniors, and service excellence. Standards include assessing required organizational practices (ROPs), which are essential practices that must be in place to be accredited.

Why is Accreditation Important?

Accreditation demonstrates to our residents, families and community that we strive for service excellence in quality and safety. It promotes and fosters a resident and family-centered care approach and engagement. It enhances resident safety and minimizes risk. It improves communication and collaboration. Lastly, Accreditation encourages awareness and education on evidence-based best practices and standards.

How does Accreditation benefit:

  • Leadership: Accreditation validates our quality improvement efforts. It supports changes to policies and procedures, minimizes risk and helps with consistency of services.
  • Employees: Accreditation engages teams to think about continuous quality improvement, safety, and learning and development through access to clear policies and procedures.
  • Health authorities and government: Accreditation demonstrates accountability and a commitment to the continual quality improvement process.
