Good Samaritan Vista Village

Overview

50 Supportive Living Suites

2 Dementia Care Cottages (20 Dementia Care Beds)

20 Independent Living Suites

5 Community Support Beds

Good Samaritan Vista Village offers seniors multiple levels of support with features that include:

  • Fully wheelchair-accessible
  • Common areas include TV and activity rooms, lounges, a dining room, a private family dining room and a laundry room.
  • Outdoor areas include a landscaped courtyard.

Good Samaritan Vista Village’s Supportive Living program offers a unique alternative for people requiring care. Residents direct their lifestyle preferences and personal care services. Caring, compassionate staff assist residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week. LPNs, supportive living workers, food services, therapy services, and community care nurses work together with the residents to help them decide on the best choices.

Each studio suite is approximately 400 square feet and has a locking door, a combination living/sleeping area, a kitchenette, and a three-piece bathroom with a wheelchair-accessible shower. There are also four one-bedroom suites for couples. Residents provide their own furnishings. The common areas are decorated to make them home-like and inviting.

There are also two 10-bed dementia care cottages attached to the main building. With a unique duplex design, the cottages create a home-like setting for up to 10 clients with dementia. Each half of the duplex has five bedrooms, a living room with a fireplace, a kitchen, and secure access to a fenced yard. Clients furnish their own rooms, making them feel more at home by surrounding themselves with familiar items. Clients are included in the events of daily living to the extent that they are accustomed and able.

The dementia care program’s care component is based more on a social rather than a medical model of care. Personal autonomy and competencies are emphasized. Residents can participate in daily activities associated with a home-like environment. These kinds of opportunities are difficult, if not impossible, to offer in large care centres.

Key elements of this model of care are:

  • Creation of a familiar, home-like environment
  • Combining privacy of accommodation with the security of around-the-clock staffing
  • Use of familiar household routines for resident activities
  • Staff serve as role models to engage residents in activities

Admissions are coordinated by Alberta Health Services Regional Access Centre: 403-388-6380 (Lethbridge) or (toll-free) 1-866-388-6380.

Good Samaritan Vista Village also offers 20 suites of independent living. Of these, 18 are studio suites, approximately 300 square feet, with a kitchenette and fully accessible bathroom. Two suites are one-bedroom suites, approximately 550 square feet, with full kitchens. Meals, housekeeping, and laundry services are offered as options to all independent living tenants. Eighteen of the 20 suites are designated as affordable housing suites for low-income tenants.
