Ways to Support

Leave a legacy donation to Good Samaritan, help residents thrive!

Give as Part of your Estate

Why More Canadians are Donating to Charity Through Their Wills

As Canadians consider what kind of legacy they would like to leave behind, more are choosing to leave charitable bequests in their Wills. A simple yet powerful act, it allows individuals to continue giving to the charities that hold a special place in their hearts after they’re gone, leaving a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.

Leaving a gift in your Will, or a legacy gift or bequest, is a highly personal means of expressing your values and continuing your support beyond your lifetime. Whether funding healthcare, education, conservation, or care for the vulnerable, your gift enables charities to plan for the long term and provide vital services in years to come.

One of the greatest advantages of legacy giving is that it does not affect your finances during your lifetime. You may be able to take care of your loved ones first, and then give a percentage of your estate to a charity that you are passionate about. Even a small percentage can make a great difference.

Additionally, charitable bequests can reduce the taxes paid by your estate, leaving more for your loved ones and your chosen charity.

By including a charity like Good Samaritan in your Will, you’re not just giving a gift—you’re leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and community. Discuss it with your financial advisor or contact us to learn more about how you can leave a legacy. Even a gift as small as 1% of your estate can have an incredible impact on the future residents of Good Samaritan.

Good Samaritan is partnering with Will Power to provide easy-to-use information for anyone considering this option. Will Power, a national public education campaign, shares data showing a growing trend: from 5% of Canadians in 2020 to 8% in 2022, leaving charitable gifts in their Wills. See this page for more information how legacy giving can support your estate planning.

How do I give?

If you are interested in leaving a gift to Good Samaritan, speak with your lawyer or financial advisor.

It can also be as easy as adding this statement into your will: “I bequeath __% of the remainder of my estate (or $___) to The Good Samaritan Society, charitable number: 107439754 RR 0002.” You might also want to include a statement that you want the funds to go to a specific care home (in your local community) or a particular program or service. Or you can leave the gift to the organization, in general, to meet the greatest need. A charitable tax receipt for the gift will be issued to your estate.
