2018 Spring Appeal

Jesus said, “Let your Light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matt 5:16

What is a good deed? A good deed is one that serves to love the receiver of the deed, and they can come in many forms.

Consider the care aide who helps an elderly person dress in the morning, the volunteer who faithfully arrives at mealtimes to assist with feeding someone who is unable to hold a fork, the chaplain who listens to the deep concerns of someone who is questioning the meaning of life, and the donor whose gift transforms into loving and joyful service.

The Good Samaritan Society and Good Samaritan Canada are faith-based charities that provide religious and spiritual support to each resident or client in our care. Our professionally trained chaplains come from a variety of Christian backgrounds and they seek to meet the religious and spiritual needs of an increasingly multicultural demographic. This is done through traditional programming like church services, hymn sings, and Bible studies, as well as grief and bereavement groups, wellness groups, one-to-one counselling, emotional support, and prayer. For residents and clients, encounters with the chaplains are life-affirming, healing, restorative, and sometimes transformative! Chaplains bring a non-judgmental presence to the conversation that supports residents and clients in their search for meaning, purpose, joy, and Christ.

In the words of St. Teresa of Avila, a 16th century nun, “Christ has no body but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes with which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands with which he blesses all the world!”

Your donation enhances the quality of life for our residents through the pastoral and spiritual care services we are able to provide. Our goal is to raise $50,000 and we invite you to accompany us on this journey by prayerfully considering making a financial contribution to our Spring Appeal. Please help us make life more soulful.
