About Us
History
The Good Samaritan Society was established in 1949 and opened its first auxiliary hospital in 1955.
The Society was created through the donation of Mr. Gottlieb Wedman, a Leduc farmer, who made a donation to the Lutheran Church to be used to help provide care for the elderly. Since those early days, The Society has grown considerably, and today we serve over 6,000 individuals, annually with programs and care homes in Alberta and British Columbia.
Stony Plain Care Centre adds 15 beds.
TeleCare® (formally Lifeline) emergency response service was introduced.
Home Support services are offered to residents who live in their own homes.

Good Samaritan breaks ground on our newest and largest home in Edmonton’s west end. Expected to be completed by fall 2027, our new 280-bed Village will be purposely designed to create a culturally appropriate space for Indigenous residents, families, and employees. From the physical design of the building and property to the programming and care within it, Indigenous peoples will feel safe in the Village.
